Sales of greenhouse products in the Russian market amount to $5 billion
According to a recent report from the RBC Survey Network on the Russian market: Per statistical analysis by analysts at Growth Technology, Russian consumers spent between $45 billion and $55 billion on greenhouse products in 2008, with the majority of the resulting profits flowing to foreign entities. Without the construction of new large-scale industrial greenhouses and the adoption of modern agricultural technologies, it will be impossible to increase the domestic yield of greenhouse products in Russia.
Market experts estimate that, depending on the equipment and existing facilities used, the cost to build one hectare of vegetable greenhouses ranges from 15 million to 25 million euros, with an investment payback period of 4 to 8 years. The construction of one hectare of flower greenhouses requires 150 million to 200 million euros, with a typical payback period of 4 to 5 years.
Due to the disrepair of existing greenhouse complexes and aging equipment, relevant parties rarely have sufficient reserve funds for such investments. Commercial banks are reluctant to provide long-term credit for industrial greenhouse construction due to the low repayment capacity associated with these projects.
Most modern industrial greenhouses in Russia are invested in and constructed by strong private investors from other sectors. These investors aim to diversify their core businesses and possess the capacity to invest tens of millions of euros in greenhouse construction projects.
