The investment cost for plastic greenhouses is generally relatively high. How can we achieve higher returns with minimal additional investment? An effective approach is to appropriately adjust the greenhouse structure—specifically, increasing its span and thickness. While this involves a small incremental investment, it can significantly expand the usable area of the greenhouse, thereby enhancing overall profitability.
For illustration, consider a plastic greenhouse with dimensions of 100 meters in length and 10 meters in width. Extending the southern side by 1 meter can increase its usable area by 11%. Additionally, raising the ridge height by just 20 centimeters helps achieve the optimal roof angle, which supports better structural efficiency and light utilization. Increasing the greenhouse length is another viable method to expand cultivation area without substantial cost escalation.
A key advantage of expanding the greenhouse space is improved thermal stability: the larger volume leads to more gradual temperature fluctuations, particularly a slower cooling rate during nighttime. This stability is beneficial for crop growth and reduces reliance on additional temperature regulation measures, further contributing to cost-effectiveness.
